Babies and young children need to be protected from insect bites. Aside from the current concerns regarding Wet Nile Virus, the reality is that when children have itchy or painful bug bites they are miserable, uncomfortable, have trouble sleeping and are unable to enjoy themselves.
There are two ways to protect children from insects: using physical barriers such as clothing and netting products of various kinds, and using safe insect repellants. Wearing light weight long-sleeved clothing and taking advantage of carseat, stroller, carrier and sleep area netting is preferable to using repellants.
When the physical barrier methods are combined with the careful use of repellants your baby or child should be well protected. At Mountain Baby we offer products utilizing both approaches.
Natural Mosquito Repellent
Looking for a natural mosquito repellent? The Natural Newborn company specializes in Baby Safe skin care products. They use only ALL-natural, chemical-free insect repellents including one specially formulated for use on babies. These products use pure essential oils such as Lemon Eucalyptus that are known to deter pests making them safe, effective, natural mosquito and insect repellents which work on all types of pests, not just mosquitos. They do not use any DEET nor other chemicals. We recommend these products for children under two.
For children over two we recommend Citronella based mosquito repellants. Though not
toxic like Deet, Citronella can still be irritating to the skin. We recommend that you use all mosquito repellants as sparingly as possible and that you utilize physical barriers such as long sleeved clothing and netting to prevent bites as much as you can.
